Tokyo history
The history of Tokyo dates back 400 years. Originally called Edo Tokyo has changed dramatically. As the centre of culture and politics the city grew and became highly populated, with a population over a million by the mid eightteenth century. The Edo period lasted for about 260 years until the Mejii restoration in 1868. Of course all cities in the world have changed over time but Tokyo and other Asian cities changes have been more noticeable. Dramatic changes where noticed after the world war 2 when Tokyo was bombed and had to be quickly re-built. After Japans surrender, US troops occupied the city until 1952. The decade following this our city had rapid expansion and renovation, resulting in hosting the 1954 Olympic games. It changed immensely by adding high rises in the city. In 1962 the city was flat and had no high buildings like we do today. The train stations have become larger and a higher amount of citizens using the system.
